Phu Quoc Island: North East

The North East of Phu Quoc is a stunning landscape of mountains and pristine rainforest making up Phu Quoc National Park. During the wetter months the waterfalls are in full flow but this also makes the roads wet and sometimes inpassable.

East of Duong Dong, Ham Ninh is a small fishing village with a couple of excellent seafood restaurants. The food is outstanding, just be sure to confirm the prices before eating anything. Once you're well fed, head north along the coastal road. Lots of deserted scenery up here until you reach a bunch of rather scenic islets just off the coast.

Mount Chua at 603 meters is the highest mountain on Phu Quoc and forms part of the Ham Ninh sandstone chain of mountains that stretch for 30km along the eastern edge of Phu Quoc. There are plans in future to build a walking trail up to a lookout at the top of the Mount Chua. The views over the national park and the island should be spectacular.

Located on the far north east of Phu Quoc, approximately 35kms from Duong Dong you will be find a long stretch of uninhabited beach, Bai Thom. While not one of most attractive of beaches, it is quite remote.

Head South East from here on the backroads leading back to Duong Dong and pass by the pepper plantations of Khu Tuong.
